Comments:
XT hubs are brilliant on MTBs because you can get them soaking wet with no H2O migrating into bearings. My deore hubs need to be torn down and cleaned once a year, but the seals on the XT are so good I go 3 years between servicing. Even after 3 years, the internals are still sporting good, clean lube. I should add that I do little trail riding, mostly staying on paved roads in Detroit, but even then I go up and down curbs and into potholes regularly for variety and safety. My original XT hubs are 7 years old and have almost 25,000 miles on them, but are still completely sound. Ok, I replaced the conical seals on the both hubs once. You can spend a lot more money and be overjoyed with your Phil Woods or White Industries, but of us normal avid cyclists you can't beat the Deore lineup, especially the XTs.
Comments:
Came stock with my Long Haul Trucker. The freehub started to go out after 3,000 miles and I had to replace it. After roughly 6,000 of loaded touring + 1,500 miles of commuting, there is a crack in the hub at a spoke hole. I am replacing this hub to prevent future failures. Very disappointed.
