Comments:

For dashing across a junction works better than Look pedals with slippery soled Vittoria shoes, the latter only work when engaged with the pedal.

    Comments:

I live on a sailboat, and use only a bicycle for land transportation (haven't owned a car in 15 years). I also have a pedal-powered dinghy (which holds a standing 24-hour record). I need to pedal through urban areas, unpaved roads, up steep inclines (Tortola has 15%+ grades!), and enjoy long-distance rides (80+ miles). These are my only bike shoe, and I have gone through a few pairs in the last 100,000 miles. I am building a new bike after selling my Moulton NS, and am looking forward to using the new three-strap version. Kevin Hughes

Hold up well in human powered boating

    By pedal boater

    About Me Competitive pedal boater

    Pros

    • Well Ventilated
    • Hold up in salt water
    • Durable Sole
    • Good Traction
    • Good for Walking
    • Simple to Use

    Cons

      Best Uses

      • Pedal boating

      Comments:

For pedal boating I need shoes or sandals that can hold up to immersion in fresh as well as salt water, protect my feet from cobble beaches, oyster shells, barnacles and seaweed or muck covered beaches, and have cycling cleats that work with the pedals on my pedal powered kayak. For years I used separate pairs of water shoes and mountain bike shoes, changing from one pair to the other as needed; e.g., water shoes when going in the water, bike shoes when in the boat. This was quite a nuisance and fraught with problems when launching in any sort of surf. Stowing or retrieving one or the other pair was a pain, too. With these sandals and a pair of wicking quick drying athletic socks I have found the perfect solution. They are extremely comfortable, much more so than the mountain bike shoes. They are more durable and more adjustable than the water shoes I had been using, and they dry very quickly. I'll eventually have to replace the cleat screws with stainless steel versions, but otherwise these shoes have been fantastic.

        Comments:

I've had 4 pairs of these in the 2-strap version. They've got a nice, stiff sole so you're not having calf cramps later. One pair I used for walking and hiking (especially great on cobblestone streets or rocks) and have been to 22 countries averaging 6-12 miles on foot per day. Prefer these to my bike shoes when touring. Wouldn't recommend for mountain biking as a downhill crash might kill your toes though. I'm going to buy a new 3-strap pair soon.
